The AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm 1:2.8G ED is a rectilinear lens, i.e. it renders straight lines nearly straight, with low barrel distortion.

A wide angle lens is good to

cover a wide area. This is exemplified in images 1 to 4.
expand the apparent depth of an image by exaggerating the size of a foreground object, like the lantern in image 5, the boulder in image 6, the salt crust in image 7, and the fountain in image 8.
