The black or white rims, otherwise typical for solarization, are missing in this example. But there is a broad jagged black rim around the trees.

The photograph was taken in April 2010 in Denmark. The camera used was a Nikon D700 with a Nikkor 70-200mm 1:2.8 lens (set at f = 165 mm).

Creation of the solarized image was done by applying GIMP’s Curves tool to the image, see screen shot. The minimum of the curve is at x = 165, y = 10 (on a scale from 0 to 255).

The Levels tool was partially applied to increase contrast, i.e. the layer was duplicated, Levels was set to Auto and applied to the upper layer which was then set to 80 % opacity and merged with the lower layer.

The 4256 x 2832 pixel image was cropped to 3200 x 2500 px (aspect ratio 1.28) and scaled down to 1500 x 1000 px (aspect ratio 1.5). Due to the different aspect ratios, the horizontal and vertical scaling factors are different, making the structure appear broader and increasing the tilt of the suspension insulators.

The image was slightly sharpened (Unsharp Mask: Radius 1, Amount 0.30, Threshold 10) and converted to JPEG (Quality 95 %).
